Women and flowers are not only central motifs in the visual arts, they are also revered, sung about and admired in music, especially in flamenco. Flamenco is a popular genre from Andalusia and neighboring regions since the 19th century. Its repertoire of songs and dances is distinguished by a characteristic style of performance, the effect of which is enhanced, especially in dance, by the typical dress and, in guitar accompaniment, by very unique rhythms and techniques. Since 2010, flamenco is part of the intangible cultural heritage.
For this special performance at the Buchheim Museum, the Flamenco Trio has intensively studied the works of the expressive realists from the Hierling Collection. With the sound and voices of flamenco, they will respond to the questions posed by the exhibition, "What images of women are constructed? What is art allowed to do, what is it supposed to do?" and will guide visitors through the exhibition in dialogue with Daniel J. Schreiber, director of the museum.
